What are Ingrown Toenails?
The causes of ingrown toenails are diverse, which are as follow:
- Curved or irregular toenails

- Inappropriate footwear (footwear that places a lot of pressure on the big toes)

At Renew Skin and Health Clinic in Leamington Spa, we have dedicated highly experienced orthopedic Surgeons who will discuss your options and can either partially excise the ingrowing toenail (This is preferred in ladies) or remove the entire diseased toenail, which will never grow back again. The procedure is done under local anesthesia; hence you will be fully awake during the surgery.
Please be aware that there is a downtime of over a week whilst you are recovering, and during this time you are expected to be in rest and keep the foot raised above you hip at all-time except when you need to use the bathroom.

It is also important to note that sometime a fleshy tissue develop in the toenail especially following recurrent infections and this fleshy tissue is called granulation tissue and this is quite annoying as its painful and bleeds from time to time. If this is the case one would need to have a consultation with Dr Jha to address this issue before you are fit for a surgery.
