Pearly Penile Papules (also known as PPP) are small dome-shaped bumps that typically appear on the rim & around the head of the penis. They can affect males of any age but are usually not considered harmful. This article will discuss specifically what PPP is, and how it can be treated.

PPP is fairly common with statistics showing it affects roughly 20-30% of the male population. The bumps associated with PPP are usually harmless, carrying no symptoms, and are not a STI (sexually transmitted infection). Furthermore, these bumps do not occur due to any negligence in one’s personal hygiene. How do these bumps appear then?

Generally, there is not a common cause for Pearly Penile Papules (PPP) but most specialists agree that they arise due to an issue with one’s sweat glands or pores. In addition, a common trend in those suffering from PPP is that of a lack of circumcision. Simply put, those who have not been circumcised are far more likely to develop PPP than those who have, but they are also seen in circumcised boys however, it is quite rare in them.

If PPP is left untreated, it will not completely disappear but may get smaller and most likely less visible over the years. However, the very fact that they will still be present on the Penis can become a big issue for individuals in terms of stress. This could bring up a host of issues like sexual rejection, low self-confidence and other mental conditions which affects one’s quality of life.
