Seborrheic Keratosis are usually skin coloured to brown to black with waxy, scaly or a raised skin lesion which may appear stuck on. They are commonly found on the face, back, chest or shoulders. They are harmless, symptomless, and have no chance of developing into cancer. However, they are a source of discomfort and can often be very irritable and itchy. But these abnormalities are neither contagious nor hereditary. It is believed that they are caused due to the build-up of ordinary skin cells. They can be related to the age and excessive exposure to the sun. The occurrence starts with a flat appearance and with time it starts to elevate which gives the impression that it is pasted on the skin surface. There can be one or multiple lesions present.
Treatment of Seborrheic Keratosis
Despite its mild nature, people prefer to have Seborrheic Keratosis treated due to cosmetic reasons. There are a variety of different treatment options available which can be discussed directly with ourselves here, at Renew Skin & Health Clinic.
Do these lesions grow back after removal?
The lesions can be successfully treated, however, there is no guarantee that it may not reoccur at same or the other places. Once treated, the lesions does not regrow, however, other lesions may appear at different sites. Even if these lesions are left untreated, they are not harmful as long as they are not changing in size, colour or becoming painful. Nevertheless, one should seek help and advice of a medical professional, which could be your own doctor.
What to expect after the treatment of Seborrheic Keratosis?
After vaporising the lesion, there will be slight redness which fades away in a couple of days. After that, there will be a hard scab which usually falls off in 10-12 days leaving behind a pink skin. This pink skin will gradually change to the normal colour of your skin. There are no side-effects of the Seborrheic Keratosis treatment if the right aftercare is followed.
