A Syringoma is cause by overactive sweat glands, and it is a non-cancerous growth which on face generally  seen below the eyes or around it. These growth can also develop on the neck, upper part of the cheeks, and the lower part of the eyes. Although these are the most common places for these growths to show up, they can also grow under the armpits, on the scalp, bellybutton/ abdomen area and the genitals. In the majority of cases, Syringoma’s tend to be harmless, and do not usually cause many symptoms. On rare occasions however, some individuals can experience pain and itchiness when sweating, if they have Syringoma’s. In addition, many suffer with the mental aspect of this condition, due to its damaging effects on one’s self-esteem.

Syringoma’s are usually small papules or firm bumps that appear as yellow, brown, pale pink, or the colour of one’s skin. A common problem is that this condition can be mistaken with conditions like milia and sebaceous hyperplasia and even sometimes with a facial wart. This is due to the similarities they share in their symptoms. Usually Syringoma’s develop over time, but they can come on suddenly, in young people and this causes often very uncomfortable bouts of itchiness, redness and pain.

The most frequent sufferers of Syringoma’s are those aged between 25 & 40, however, women are more prone than men particularly Caucasian women and women of Japanese heritage.
